Maison Des Rendez-Vous, the soundtrack for the ninth Betontanc
(the notorious contemporary dance theater) performance, marks the third collaboration
between director Matjaz Pograjc and Silence, as well as the third,
long awaited Silence LP (since Unlike A Virgin in '99). The record
was released on Tehnika Records, a sub-division of Nika Records,
on April 16th 2003.
After Midnight Meat Flight (1999) and Peter Pan (2001), Matjaz
Pograjc and Silence joined forces once again in order to bring to life a devious
tale inspired by the work of Harold Pinter. In Maison Des Rendez-Vous,
six dancers - actors confront their fears and each other in a macabre room
that seems to have a life of its own. Constantly swinging like a giant seesaw,
the malevolent room deprives the performers of the one certainty we're all
accustomed to: the firm ground beneath our feet. Combined with the overwhelming
dance mastery of the Betontanc theater, the unique stage (conceived
by scenographer Sandi Mikluz) provides a set where one must constantly
bend and occasionally break the law of gravity in order to survive.

The soundtrack is probably a surprise for those who expected a record stylistically
similar to the group's first two releases. The music on this record is mainly
instrumental (except for the opening and closing song). It is an interesting
mixture of analogue sounds, electro beats, exotic instruments (koto, shamisen,
dulcimer etc.) and live rythmic experiments, underlined by a live string quartet
(The Rozmarinke string quartet, with whom Silence already successfully
collaborated on numerous occasions). Mystic, profound, occasionally almost
classical, yet undeniably fresh and toyful. Maison Des Rendez-Vous
brings a whole new dimension to the public's perception of what Silence's
music is supposed to be.
The Maison des rendez-vous soundtrack is available in all major stores
in Slovenia. It is also available online - see Mail Order for more information.
